Chickpeas

Chickpeas (Cicer arietinum) are legume species of the Cicer genus, belonging to the Faboideae subfamily of the legumes (Fabaceae) family.

Chickpeas are plant that grow only for one year, reproduce by seeds, and reach 50 centimeters in height in Turkey. The seeds are sometimes beige, sometimes darker or even black.

Chickpea are easy plant to grow. They are grown in arid areas in Anatolia. It withstands water scarcity well and does not care much about soil quality. If the weather is not warm enough, the revenue will be bad.

Their leaves are 5 – 15 mm in size and their buds can grow up to 30 mm. The seeds can also be eaten green without drying. Dried chickpeas are used in many dishes.
